Lugana is an extraordinary white wine, produced mainly from Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, also known as Turbiana. These vines thrive thanks to the unique microclimate of Lake Garda, which guarantees warm summers and mild winters, ideal conditions for growing high quality grapes.
Turbiana: essence of the territory
The Lugana vines are dominated by the Trebbiano di Lugana, also known as Turbiana, which constitutes themain grape variety of this wine area. This native vine is distinguished by its thick-skinned grapes with juicy pulp, which ripen perfectly thanks to the temperate climate of Lake Garda.
Turbiana is a noble and ancient grape variety with medium, compact, elongated pyramid-shaped bunches. The grapes are spheroidal, with a thick and moderately pruinose skin, characterised by the typical white patina that appears during ripening. The pulp is juicy, loose and slightly acidulous, with a neutral flavour.
The main characteristics of Lugana vines include a high natural acidity, which gives freshness and longevity to the wine, and a distinct minerality, resulting from the region’s unique soils. The result is a white wine with an elegant and complex bouquet, with notes of citrus fruits, white flowers and, as it evolves, almonds, accompanied by a pleasant savouriness and a harmonious finish. It stands out for its versatility, expressing itself at its best in both the classic white and sparkling versions, producing white wines rich in nuances and personality.

The Lugana vines have their roots in a history that goes back thousands of years. Even the ancient Romans appreciated the wines of this area. Today, Cà Maiol continues this tradition, combining modern winemaking techniques with respect for the environment and biodiversity.
